“When I started here in SimCorp I mainly did small things in the code. Now that I have more understanding and more experience with the product, I can work on the bigger projects and more independently. Today I go to review meetings and cooperate with our domain managers as well as write designs and make code reviews.”

I am a software developer with the Accouting domain of the Back Office, where we work with the core part of SimCorp Dimension. I have a Master in Computer Science from Aalborg University and my educational background has definitely helped me to learn new programming languages.  Also, It really helps me produce a better code and therefore a better product.

How has your career developed in
your time with SimCorp?

It was quite a struggle to understand all the finance stuff in the beginning.  At first, I had to ask a lot of questions to understand the area. It’s not like being a pure programmer, since I have to understand the financial area it is aimed for too. But now, it’s like a new door opens up and I can benefit a lot from that in my career. The financial industry changes all the time, so we constantly have to learn new things. This is exciting and I simply like my job more and more. In the beginning I was a little bit shy but there is no reason to be. People are very nice in SimCorp, and I have good co-operation and positive relations with my colleagues.

How do you experience the international
element in your daily work life?

I have a lot of communication with the employees in our subsidiary in Kiev, Ukraine, but very often I also get questions from clients in Germany, London or Australia, where I also talk to SimCorp’s consultants. You have to communicate with the local colleagues to fully understand the requirements.

What do you think the best thing is
about working with SimCorp?

You can learn many new things! If you go to another company you might end up being ‘just’ a developer, but here I have the opportunity to learn also to understand the finance area. Furher, you also have the opportunity to change and develop your role. For example, in our group we had a developer who is now a business consultant.
